Dr Mustafa Barghouti is the co-founder and leader of the Palestinian National Initiative. He was a presidential candidate in the 2005 Palestinian election, and was placed second after Mahmoud Abbas. In 2006, he was elected to the Palestinian Legislative Council, and became Minister of Information in the 2007 National Unity Government. Barghouti was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize in 2010. A physician, he is also a social, political, human rights and peace activist, and a campaigner for Palestinian civil society and grassroots democracy. He is a well-known international voice of the Palestinian cause, and a leading figure in the non-violent popular resistance against Israeli occupation and apartheid. Barghouti was the founder and is the president of the Palestinian Medical Relief Society and writes extensively for local and international audiences. His most recent publication is the book The Ploy of the Century: Dimensions and Confrontational Strategies, about Donald Trump’s ‘deal of the century’.
