Raji Sourani has been dedicated to the promotion and protection of human rights in the Occupied Palestinian Territory throughout his professional career. As a lawyer, he has spent decades promoting and defending human rights, in Palestine and around the world. For his work, Sourani received many honors, including the Right Livelihood Award, Stockholm (2013), the Knight of France’s National Order of Merit, France (2021), and the Honorary Human Rights Award (2022) by the Association for Human Rights of Spain (The Asociación Pro Derechos Humanos de España – APDHE). Sourani has maintained an unwavering commitment to human rights, even through numerous periods of imprisonment by both the Israeli occupation and the Palestinian Authority. In 1995, he was a founder of the Palestinian Centre for Human Rights, which he still heads. In January this year, Sourani was part of the South African legal team to the International Court of Justice in its case of genocide against Israel.
